Idle AGI Lab

Capability goes up. Money goes out. Neither of those facts ever changes.

You run a frontier AI laboratory. Buy compute, from a single accelerator to a continental grid. Raise a funding round, spend it, raise a larger one. Ship the successor and watch the benchmark be revised upward, so that the same system scores lower than it did yesterday. The board regards this as a recalibration rather than a loss.

Where Wisps Wander

A quiet game about tending a graveyard, and the people still in it.

Orrin is seventeen, and he has the eyes his family is known for: black, hollow, and the reason the town finds somewhere else to look when he passes. The old caretaker who raised him hands him a lantern, a ring of keys, and a cemetery that has been let go for a long time. Cut the ivy back. Mend a headstone until its name can be read again. Raise your lantern over someone who has been alone in the dark for sixty years, and stay there while they settle.

Setting
An English country cemetery, 1966 to 1971
Grounds
Nine, hand-built
Tools
Eight, handed over one at a time
The mystery
Eight fragments, one per ground
Fail state
None

“Some things cannot be fixed. They can be kept.”

Ricochet Royale

Poker where you don't get dealt cards. You win them.

Poker played on a pachinko board. Aim your ball along the rail, add spin, and drop it through the pegs, and whichever slot it lands in is your next card. Some slots sit face up and some face down, and the whole table watches where your ball goes, so a face up ace is no secret and a face down card still gives away its suit. Special pins appear for one drop at a time: switch your suit, pair a card you already hold, hide what you took. Once in a while the gold pin lights up, and hitting it turns your hand into a royal flush, face up for everyone.

Cards

Lab notes

Unedited · occasionally embarrassing

Week 41

The valuation curve now only ever goes up. This is intentional and we will not be taking questions.

Week 39

Rendered one thousand arable parcels from low orbit. Ran at twelve frames a second. Fixed it. Rendered two thousand.

Week 37

Orrin’s lantern got a flicker. It took four days. It was worth it.
